I joined L.A.'s kickboxing class at UH 6 years ago and within the last 9 months started (personal) training with him. For me, it hasn't been easy to stay on the fitness track, but L.A. just wouldn't give up on me and wouldn't let me give up on myself. Thanks to him, I dropped from 19% to 12% body fat in 7 months, someone who NEVER exercised before meeting him unless it was for school credit. Oh, and don't let his muscles and tough exterior intimidate you. He's a very cool guy with a heart of gold :)

My name is Jennifer Roberts and I am currently one of seven female fire fighters in the Honolulu Fire Department. In 1997 I began my journey to become a fire fighter. I began studying and did quite well on the written exam. Then came the physical agility exam. I was a complete failure. I was overweight and more out of shape than I realized. I continued to work out and run on my own, and after 6 years was still unable to pass the physical agility exam. I finally decided that I needed help. Through many phone calls to friends and referrals to other friends, I was given L.A. Harper's number. I'm sure he had no idea what was in store for him when I approached him with this challenge. I was 38 years old, overweight, and clearly out of shape. I announced that he had 6 months to get me in shape for the next physical agility exam. And then the work began. I trained with L.A. 3 times a week, running, lifting weights, and kickboxing. He designed a program specifically targeted at the obstacle course I had to complete, as well as teaching me proper diet and nutrition. Not only did he whip me into shape but he gave me the confidence I needed to do it. L.A. was very thorough in our training, and made a point to keep it diverse and interesting to keep me challenged every day. The motivation L.A. gave me was just as important as the weight lifting and running. It is clear to me that I could never have done this without him. Not only did I pass the physical agility exam, which was a timed obstacle course, but I completed it with time to spare. I was the only woman in Honolulu to pass the physical agility exam that year (out of the original 6000 applicants), and I have L.A. to thank for it. I entered the Honolulu Fire Department Recruit Training Program in Sept '05, and am currently working at the Kakaako Fire Station on Oahu. I am 40 years old and in the best shape of my life. Every day I work out, and I still use the methods and techniques that L.A. taught me. L.A. has taught me how to be healthy, not just to pass a test, but for life. I'm living my dream job and I've never been happier.
